Reform UK’s Healthcare Vision for Hedge End: Addressing the GP Merger and Beyond

Reform UK’s Healthcare Vision for Hedge End: Tackling the GP Merger and Championing Local Access

The recent merger of Hedge End Medical Centre and Blackthorn Health Centre into the new Hamble Valley Health organisation has prompted concern among many local residents. While the goal of streamlining services and improving care is welcome in theory, the reality on the ground is that patients are still struggling to get timely appointments, and many worry that personal continuity of care will be lost.

Reform UK’s Position: Local Healthcare Must Be Accessible, Timely, and Personal

Reform UK is committed to putting patients first. In Hedge End and across the country, we are calling for a bold and practical healthcare agenda that tackles long wait times, GP shortages, and the growing disconnect between services and the communities they serve.

Our Plan for Hedge End Includes:

  • More Drop-In Centres: Reform UK will push for the creation of new walk-in and drop-in clinics to give patients fast access to care without long waits or unnecessary bureaucracy.

  • More Doctors, More Appointments: We will fight for increased GP recruitment and retention in Hedge End, and ensure surgeries have the resources to offer more appointment slots. This includes targeted incentives to attract healthcare professionals to the area.

  • Protecting Local Surgeries: We will oppose any further centralisation of healthcare that reduces patient choice or access. Reform will work to ensure local surgeries remain available and accountable to the communities they serve.

Responding to the Hamble Valley Health Merger

The merger of the two main practices into Hamble Valley Health (HVH) was described as a way to “improve resilience and access,” but many patients remain concerned. Reform UK will monitor this closely and advocate for clear guarantees that patient care standards will not decline during or after the transition.

A National Vision with Local Impact

Our wider NHS reform policy includes a significant increase in funding—up to £17 billion per year—alongside streamlined management, more frontline workers, and public-private partnerships to cut waiting lists. But at a local level, it starts with listening to people. In Hedge End, that means more local care, not less.

Reform UK is the only party with the courage to challenge the status quo and the common sense to deliver results. We will continue listening to residents and standing up for practical, people-first solutions to fix our broken healthcare system.
